David L. Philman
I first met Giampaolo Agostinelli in the confines of Carrier Air Wing Three after I had landed aboard the USS Harry S. Truman following a mission in the Persian Gulf. Though I had been a member of the 'Battle Axe' team for several months I had not had the pleasure of meeting the famous international photojournalist that had traveled so much to become an integral part of CVW-3 and USS Harry S. Truman. We became instant and lasting friends.
There is little more that I can add to the introd-uctions of 'Brick' and 'Killer' that you've already read. What is important to emphasize is the enormous dedication and pure love of aviation that Giampi has poured into this book.
He has been there with the entire air wing, enjoying the thrill and beauty of carrier aviation on the most azure of mornings in the Persian Gulf, on the brilliant desert sunrises in the high desert of Nevada and on the placid sunsets along the Florida Keys.
Through his camera lens he has captured the finest Sailors and Aviators that the United States Navy has to offer, and has portrayed the true essence of the life of a Naval Aviator. And while he has experienced enviable high performance jet flights, he has also toiled alongside the pilots and maintenance personnel conducting the all-important, yet tedious, flight deck FOD walk-down on a cold and rainy day at sea.
On behalf of all the Officers and Sailors of Carrier Air Wing Three, past, present and future, thank you, Giampi for your friendship and devotion to Naval Aviation.
Good luck and Godspeed!
